Swedish post-punk/hardcore band Invisible Wounds are preparing to release their new EP Dark Visions through Monument Records and Genet Records.
The group brings together members of several well-known Scandinavian underground acts, including vocalist Peter Sehlin (Between Us, TKTK), guitarists Carl Ekerstam (Hurula) and Simon Follman (Molly’s Gusher), bassist Jonas Calander (Hellman & Härden, Rättens Krater), and drummer Anders Löwgren (Akani, Dead Reprise). Blending brooding post-punk atmosphere with the urgency of hardcore, the band channels grief, isolation, and fragile hope into a sound that’s both dark and melodic.
According to Löwgren, the band formed out of tragedy and a need for creative release. “Through dark times of depression, anxiety, addiction, and mutual friends dying of suicide and drugs, the friendship and creative atmosphere within Invisible Wounds has been an outlet to vent and express emotions,” he tells No Echo.
The project began in late 2021 after two close friends died within a month of each other. Löwgren and bassist Jonas Calander began writing music to process their loss and honor their friends. “Invisible Wounds wouldn’t exist if Fredrik and Benjamin didn’t pass away,” Löwgren says. “In a weird way, we’re grateful—it’s the most beautiful way to honor them.”
Musically, the band draws from a wide range of influences across hardcore, punk, and darker alternative music. “We always aimed for an intense dark sound with melody,” Löwgren explains, citing bands like The Cure, Joy Division, Killing Joke, Dag Nasty, and Bad Brains among those frequently discussed within the group.
Much of the band’s songwriting takes place remotely since members live in different Swedish cities, but the collaboration has produced a growing catalog of material.
The Dark Visions EP features three new songs alongside remastered tracks from their earlier release, Darkness Cuts. Members recorded many of their parts at home, with Löwgren mixing the material alongside Zack Anderson of Blues Pills. Anderson’s bandmate—and Löwgren’s wife—Elin Larsson also contributes vocals to the track “Healing.”
