New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Intrusive

Band: Intrusive
From: Connecticut

Their formation story:
(Declan O’Rourke, guitars): "We all met at shows in southern Connecticut. We’d all hang at like Wamleg, State House, Beeracks, etc. Myself, Jake, and Ian got together and started writing in my basement. After a whole bunch of names, Jake came up with the name Intrusive. We all thought it sounded pretty dope so it stuck pretty quick. We later met Gavin and Noah through some mutual friends and asked em to join.

"After we all practiced till we felt like we had a reasonable setlist, we had our first show at a church ballroom at UConn with our friends in The Sauce, Dishpit, and a few others. We put out a standalone single, 'Near Death Experience,' about 6 months back and since then we’ve just been writing and gigging."

Their sound in their own words:
"I would call it metallic hardcore with some early 2000s metalcore influence. We went for a healthy balance of riffy harmonic metalcore sections and more punishing hardcore breakdowns.

"We all listened to a lot of Inclination, Sanction, and 100 Demons when writing this EP so they’d be our biggest influences."

Latest release info:
"Our newest release, Peace of Mind, is a culmination of our favorite songs that fit thematically. These are songs we’ve been playing live since our first show which we’ve been tweaking as we’ve played shows over the last year.

"Stylistically, it is a slight departure from our first single. We wanted to go more compulsive and heavy but we didn’t want to compromise those melodic elements from our first single. It’s our first jab at more musical diversity which we’ll later explore."

Future plans:
"Our sights are set on an upcoming split EP, and a full album a bit later on. We’re gonna keep gigging around the area and were in the midst of planning a hometown EP release show with some familiar faces in the area."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"We really dig Mercy Whip, Hard Feelings, and Burning Hand. All dope bands from Connecticut that you’d be making a mistake if you weren’t checking them out."
