Stockholm heavy music wrecking crew God Mother will release their third full-length album, Köttvärld (“Meat World”), on September 25.
Following the band’s Sinneseld EP, the new record finds God Mother expanding their abrasive attack with elements of grindcore, punk, sludge, and death metal. Lyrically, Köttvärld deals with identity, purpose, and maintaining a sense of self in an increasingly digital world.
The album was written, produced, and performed entirely by God Mother, with recording taking place across several Stockholm studios. Michael Dahlström handled the mix with consulting from Cult of Luna’s Magnus Lindberg, who also mastered the record.
Frontierer vocalist Chad Kapper guests on “Almost Intelligent,” while Martin Savage Hildebrand contributes saxophone to the title track.
God Mother have been scrambling brains with their genre-bending approach for well over a decade now. Back in 2017, around the release of their Vilseledd album through The Dillinger Escape Plan guitarist Ben Weinman’s Party Smasher Inc., No Echo had the band share some of their favorite artists working with odd time signatures, including Cult Leader, Hella, Frank Zappa, The Armed, and Karpis.
The band will follow the release of Köttvärld with a European run in October before returning home for an album release show in Stockholm on November 7. Preorders are live at this link.
