New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Spit Truth

Band: Spit Truth
From: South Florida

Their formation story:
(Tyler Foss, guitars): "Our vocalist, Vennie, and I randomly ran into one another after we each took a few year hiatus from playing in different south Florida hardcore projects. We knew each other pretty well from the scene, mostly from his time in No Peace and Spent Youth and my time in Incited and Nebraska Bricks. We jokingly discussed teaming up for a project to bring back the sounds of 2006 but neither of us took it too seriously because of the adulting thing and limited free time.

"Ultimately, we ran the idea by a few friends, his ride or die band mate Martin Motta, my forever drummer and brother Casey Foss, and guitarist Huey Leighton. Everyone was down so we just started meeting to write without any real plans in mind.

"Fast forward a couple months and we had an EP ready to roll we were very happy with so we hit up my old friend Tyler Denslow from K.O.T.P. Records and he agreed to take on the project. Now we’re booking up as many shows as we can and have plans for some out of state runs and new material ready to go as well."

Their sound in their own words:
"As I mentioned, we kind of honed in on a revival of 2006 and we draw a lot of our influence from Down to Nothing, Kids Like Us, Carry On, Guns Up!, and Mindset to name a few."

Latest release info:
"We just released our debut EP, Mode of Operation, on K.O.T.P. Records and it’s essentially the birth of 5 collective styles coming together organically by 5 dudes who’ve been doing this for awhile. We have some cameos from some of our favorite people (Kenny from When I Saw Hell) and Emilio from Migrant Fury. It’s pretty straight forward punk influenced hardcore. No frills, just straight to the point."

Future plans:
"We just had a great EP release show put on by Equinox Booking and we have another show lined up in Tampa in October with Plague Splitter, who everyone should definitely check out. From there we are taking show offers as they come but we plan on doing a Florida weekender with our homies in Cold Steel in November.

"Early next year, we are going back to the studio to record a split with a band I can’t yet mention, but also will be put out on K.O.T.P. and partnered with another label. We added a second guitarist who played bass for us in Incited and he’s definitely bringing some new flavor to the writing process so things are going to beef up a little bit with the newer material. We plan on touring and have plans to go to Colombia in the works as well."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"There are so many to list but I’m no particular order and from all over Florida, bands that you need to know are:

WISH (When I Saw Hell)
Days Spent
Xcelerate
Shades of War
Cold Steel
Migrant Fury
Agitate
Domain
Never Had It
No Friend of Mine
Stedfast
For My Sins

"I could go on and on. Never a shortage of talent in Florida hardcore, sorry I know I’m missing plenty."
