Band: One Track Mind
From: Montreal, Québec
Their formation story:
(P-Lou, bass): "Kevin and I have known each other forever and started going to shows together 15 years ago. Mid-2023, we were talking about how it was time for us to start something together. I started a group chat with Alex and Doro called « new band » and it kind of happened organically from there.
"We found Louis P, our drummer, after Kevin pitched him the idea of a band influenced by the early 2000s Lockin’ Out-era and the '80s NYHC at a show in October 2023. He’s been with us ever since! We seriously started jamming last November and played our first show in April of 2024."
Their sound in their own words:
"We get our influences from many places in hardcore and outside of it. I would say the most obvious would be from the democore-era with Unified Right and Moshers Delight. We are also heavily influenced by the Boston sound of the 2000s with Mental, Righteous Jams, and the Dumptruck demo.
"Lyrically, Kevin gets inspired by the likes of Embrace and Rites of Spring as well as poets like Leonard Cohen and Irving Layton."
Latest release info:
:We worked on these songs for a while before going in studio to record them. We were working on a tight schedule and managed to record the whole thing in 2 days with the help of Maxime Lajoie of the band Spite House who we recorded with.
"I think this release is a brief window on whats to come for us and what we’re about. We want to bring a more positive side of hardcore after a wave of harder and more metallic bands. We wanted to bring a familiar but lost sound to our scene and the reaction we’ve got at shows so far tells us we are doing something right!"
Future plans:
"We are currently working on new songs for an upcoming release. We will also release a split very shortly! Of course play shows in as many cities as possible."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"MTLHC is in a very good place right now with many different kinds of bands. I want to shout out Will to Speak, Loose Screw, Java, Excess, Verify, Puffer, Béton Armé, Spite House, Spleen, Street Gloves and Cloned Apparition. Also, an honourable mention going out to the local legends, Prowl."
