Skate punks the world over have a reason to celebrate today. The folks at Trust Records have just dropped a deluxe reissue of Stalag 13's seminal 1984 hardcore record, In Control.
Featuring remastered audio by Dave Gardner (Bad Brains, Hot Snakes), the 40th anniversary vinyl version of In Control includes a 16 page booklet with tons of visual ephemera, and the history of Stalag 13 penned by vocalist Ron Baird.
Founded in 1981 by Baird, Stalag 13 bursted out of Oxnard, California with a sound influenced by bands like Minor Threat and SSD. Considered by many hardcore pundits as the first West Coast straight edge group,
Stalag 13 also helped put Nardcore on the map along with fellow Oxnard OGs Dr. Know, Ill Repute, and Agression.
To help promote the In Control anniversary reissue, Trust Records have released a music video directed by Brian Balchack featuring footage shot in the '80s by Louis Elovitz (his YouTube page is worth a follow!):
As a bonus, Trust Records has also released the latest entry in their One Two Me You Series interview video series. In this piece, Baird sits down with current Chris Ramos, vocalist of current Nardcore band, Dead Heat, to talk shop:
With Baird now living in Australia, he's given Stalag 13 the blessing to tour without him. Vocalist John Crerar (Missing 23rd, Stop Breathing, Head Cut) now fronts the lineup, with also includes Blake Cruz (guitar), John Morris (bass), Larry White (drums), and Dave Casillas (lead guitar).
Stalag 13 will be heading to Japan later this month in support of both the In Control reissue, and their 2024 Holding On Vol.1 EP.
The vinyl version of the In Control deluxe reissue hits stores this Friday, October 4 (pre-order).
