Sab: New Jersey Punk Band Mines Eclectic ‘80s Influences on Debut Release

"I'd describe the sound as early '80s hardcore punk with tons of other influences mashed in," says Andrew, drummer for Sab, an up and coming band from New Jersey.

"We’ve been informally jamming and playing with each other for over a year now. It started out as sort of a jam band and slowly veered towards hardcore punk. About 2 or 3 months into the new year, we decided to really start taking it seriously, and we played our first show at the end of May."

Sab recently released their demo, showcasing their love for the classics, albeit, some disparate ones. "I'd describe the sound as early '80s hardcore punk with tons of other influences mashed in.

"We all have a massively diverse music taste, and before we really got deep into hardcore we were really into '60s psychedelic music, like Hendrix, early Floyd, and '80s stuff, like Bauhaus, the Smiths, the first four Cure records, and so many others I can't name."

From what he tells us, Andrew and his bandmates are just getting started. "We’re writing for an EP right now, and we have some big expectations for it. It’s going to be our best stuff yet.

"We're about halfway done with writing now, and are hoping to get it out early next year. Besides that, playing shows of course, we have some really cool stuff coming up."
