Omega are one of those bands pushing hardcore’s boundaries in 2026, refusing to fit neatly into any one mold. Their fast approach blends melody into the mix without sacrificing the emotion or heaviness at the heart of their sound.
Following the release of their debut LP, Ausente, earlier this year, the Guadalajara band are now teaming up with brand-new Mexican label ¡Faul! Recs to give the record a well-deserved vinyl release.
I hit up Iván to talk about the release and make sure you know how to get your hands on this piece of Mexican Hardcore history.
Hey Iván, what’s up? I already profiled you for No Echo, but please introduce yourself and Omega.
Hey Isaac! Always a pleasure talking to you. I’m Iván, an imperfect human being, a psychologist by profession, an aspiring boxer and soccer player, an Atlas F.C. supporter, an avid reader, a fan of memes in Portuguese, a fan of sausage aguachile (Editor’s note: this sucks, don’t try this at home), and some people know me as the guitarist of Omega.
Omega formed in my hometown of Guadalajara in 2012, influenced by bands like Rotting Out, Trapped Under Ice, Down to Nothing, and Terror. We’ve gone through several lineup changes over the years, and these days it’s yours truly, Alex, on drums; Diego on bass; Javier on the other guitar; and Guccito on vocals.
It’s been a crazy year for Omega so far, with shows all over Mexico — including Warped Tour and opening for Fiddlehead in CDMX (on my birthday!). Had you guys planned this much for the year?
Yeah, it’s been a really busy year, way beyond anything we could’ve imagined. Playing with Fiddlehead was especially emotional for me because Patrick Flynn has been a huge influence on me as a person. On top of that, Have Heart was the first American hardcore band I ever listened to, so it was really cool to finally meet him in person that day — on your birthday.
We’ve also played cities like Hermosillo at St. Lucky Fest and Mexicali with my incredible brothers in Truth Be Told and Worst Enemy, plus several local shows. And honestly, I can't say much about Vans Warped Tour in Mexico City other than it was simply incredible. A dream come true.
To top it off, Ausente is getting the vinyl treatment. How did this come to be?
Playing Warped Tour actually opened a lot of doors for us. It was a completely new experience because it meant working with a whole crew to make everything happen: guitar tech, drum tech, stage manager, sound engineer, monitor engineer, and our production manager.
Our production manager is a longtime friend named Weeks. We’ve known each other for years, and he also owns Foro Independencia, an iconic venue here in Guadalajara.
Weeks told us he wanted to start a record label called ¡Faul! Recs and wanted Omega to be his very first release. That was a huge honor for us, especially because we get to work on something like this with friends. I’ve always believed that when you work together as a community, everything becomes easier.
Where can people get the record in Mexico?
The record will be available starting in February 2027. Right now, we’re running a preorder that ends on November 20, and everyone who preorders will receive an exclusive turntable slipmat.
You can preorder the record through our Instagram account. You can also reach out to us there with any questions about shipping, whether you’re in Mexico or anywhere else in the world.
What’s next for Omega?
We’ve got a live session coming up soon, kind of like a Tiny Desk-style performance, but produced by people here in our hometown. We’re also going to play a show on a beach, although I can’t say where just yet.
We’ve also got a show coming up with our friends in Almost Done, another one with GRS toward the end of the year, and there’s a chance we might play a pretty big show we’ve been invited to, but we haven’t heard anything back yet [laughs].
Lastly, we’re also working on some new singles that we’re recording between my bedroom and the studio of my other band, Senda de Honor. Hopefully, we’ll get them out before the end of the year!
Thank you so much for everything, Isaac. I appreciate you, and you know that. And thanks to everyone who took the time to read this interview!
