For the uninitiated, Juggernaut is a metallic hardcore band that has been around since the early 2010s.
"After their first release on Blasphemour Records [2015's Overlooked EP], they lost their rhythm section and were going to hang it up, but I convinced them otherwise and weaseled my way into the band," laughs drummer MikeUnion Jeffers. "We added another guitarist and released our first record with Irish Voodoo Records called Ambition to Destroy in 2018, and we also made some compilation appearances. We did some touring with Chokehold and For the Love Of, as well as regional shows."
Based in Buffalo, New York, Juggernaut recorded their next album, Hollow Black, in late 2019, early 2020, but things got complicated from there. "The pandemic hit and the record didn’t come out until late 2021," says MIkeUnion. "Daryl Taberski from Snapcase did guest vocals on the track 'Sacrifice for Misfortune.' We did what touring we could in the post-pandemic climate and started writing new music. We did a run with Pure Bliss last year and hit the studio, and we did a split early this year with upstarts Selfish Act on Classic-Core Records."
Juggernaut's latest chapter kicks off today via a cover of 108's "Deathbed." The song originally appeared on the Krishnacore legend's 1994 Songs of Separation album, and this new take on it gives it a bit more of a metallic kick.
A limited 7” version of "Deathbed" is available now via Irish Voodoo Records:
A Buffalo Hardcore mainstay, MikeUnion is psyched on the scene's current state. "I haven’t witnessed such a vibrant scene here since the late '90s. Shows are packed. The local bands are great and diverse musically. High school kids are showing up in droves again. It’s pretty fuckin’ cool. There’s a bunch of legacy kids. Buffalo finally has a second generation hardcore punk scene. It’s amazing to see Mom and Dad at shows together with their kids because the whole family is into the music!
"Buffalo has been on the rise not only with bands, but local music media outlets like 1120 Press, and the Nickel City Soundtrack Podcast. Check them out."
Stay tuned as Juggernaut will soon be releasing a new EP called Comatose Congregation via Death Farm Records on limited cassette, with the vinyl/CD/digital coming out through Irish Voodoo Records.
