Hey there, it's Wyatt with No Echo for another video interview. This time with a band from Belgium called Crouch. The band has recently recorded a full-length album called Breaking the Catatonic State. The album is coming out on March 20th via Heimlich Manoeuvres.
Crouch features Wim Coppers (Wiegedood, Oathbreaker, Rise and Fall, Living Gate) on drums, Jasper Hollevoet (Ventilateur) on bass, and Levy Seynaeve (Wiegedood, Oathbreaker, ex-Amenra, Living Gate) on guitar and vocals.
I was lucky enough to listen to the album ahead of its release. This release sounds awesome! It was recorded and mixed by Gilles Demolder (Wiegedood), with mastering handled by Brad Boatright (Audiosiege). Brad was the perfect choice for this album.
Breaking the Catatonic State brings back the era of early '00s Hydra Head bands. The best comparison I can make is that at times this sounds like Knut meets Botch meets something Aaron Turner would write. It is a really refreshing mix of that hardcore and metal style from that era. There is a strong post-metal element, akin to Neurosis or even YOB.
On this release, Crouch break away from the traditional 4/4 timing, creating a whole new landscape of twists and turns throughout each song. Crouch already have plans to open for Converge in the UK this summer and is the perfect fit for the bill. They've already played support slots for bands like Russian Circles and Cave-In.
