Band: Tripper
From: Baltimore, Maryland
Their formation story:
"Michael (drums) had been in a bunch of bands in Baltimore and was looking to start a new one in the spring of 2022. Alex (vocals) and him met around the same time when he hired her to design some art for a website and realized they liked a lot of the same bands. Bryan (guitar) and Michael met through Michael’s roommate in 2021 and started going to shows together.
"They started playing music in the summer of 2022, but it took them a while to nail down a sound they liked since it had been a few years since either had played in a hardcore band. Bryan and Austin (bass) had met years ago through mutual friends and brought them in on bass in December. We recorded the EP at the end of April and played our first show a few weeks later to a packed room."
Their sound in their own words:
"Hardcore with skramz elements. The one band all four of us love is Converge so that probably comes through a lot in our sound (minus the super mathy bits). Bryan and Austin are huge Every Time I Die fans and Alex’s biggest vocal influence is Megan O’Neill from Punch.
"Otherwise we listen to a lot of No Man, Gouge Away, Gulch, Jivebomb, HIRS, GEL, Fiddlehead, and Roman Candle."
Latest release info:
"These were the first four songs we finished and felt they were diverse enough to be on an EP together. We recorded it with Kevin Bernsten (End It, Full of Hell) at Developing Nations and it was mixed by Matt Redenbo (Jivebomb, Praise)."
Alex (vocals): “I’ve mostly written about my experience with mental health—some moments that changed me and exploring difficult feelings—but generally want our songs to be positive or perhaps empowering.”
Future plans:
"We’re having an EP release show on 11/4 in Baltimore. After that we’re hoping to record the second EP early next year and start doing some touring in the spring."
What other bands from the region should we check out?
"The Baltimore scene is crazy right now and very fun to be a part of. Shout out to Doubt, Gasket, Muscle, Trash Diva, Eyelet, Dosser, Grudge, Consumer Culture, Ripley Void, Polarview, Out Sick!, Pearl, B.R.A.T., Silk Leash, Ploy Machine."
