New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Total Wreck

Band: Total Wreck
From: Sunshine Coast, Australia

Their formation story:
(Dan, drums): "It’s the typical 'old heads coming out of semi-retirement' story. Marli had moved back here (Sunshine Coast, Australia) and we wrote a few songs before recruiting Steve, who I knew from playing shows together 20 years ago. Jaryd joined soon afterwards."

Their sound in their own words:
"Some of the original influences we spoke about were Social Circkle, Government Issue, and Germs but I think the harder vocals gives it a bit of a Midwest feel.

"A friend described it as 'like Negative Approach with surfy leads' and while I'll maintain that no one should say their band sounds like NA, it's not too far off the mark. Anyone who hasn't entirely burned out on new bands doing classic hardcore might enjoy it."

Latest release info:
"We released our demo in early December 2024 and have had a lot of great feedback so far. Four songs of hardcore punk recorded live on a digital four-track in the jam room and mixed by our original bass player Jaryd. It's out on cassette in Australia and Bandcamp for any curious international readers."

Future plans:
"We've just got a new bass player, Mike, because Jaryd decided to move 10 hours away. We aim to get him up to speed, play some shows, write some songs and hopefully record for a 7" before the end of 2025."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Sick People and The Meat are my favourite QLD bands. Flogg and Human Condition are the new wave of Sunshine Coast youth."
