Band: Crashing Forward
From: San Diego, California
Their formation story:
(Ati Moran, vocals): "We have known each other for a longtime from school and going to punk/hardcore shows in San Diego. Our guitar player Oscar started reaching out to me at the at the beginning of 2021 about some hardcore songs he wrote and wanted me to sing. I said no originally due to not having time because I recently became a father, but when he asked me again, I was able to work out a schedule to be a part of this adventure.
"From there, we reach out to SG for drums and he asked David to play bass, who also became a father at that time. Our first practice was in May 2021, we waited to play s show until we were content with everything. Our first show was on September 22, 2022."
Their sound in their own words:
"We are a hardcore band with some melodic tones, but also have some aggressive moments. Our approach is to draw from influences of music versus the types of music that may be popular for the time.
"Our musical influences include bands like Amenity, Spiritual Cramp, Verbal Assault, Inside Out, Swiz, Forced Down, and Dag Nasty; many of the mid-to-late '80s hardcore bands we have a direct emotional connection to."
Latest release info:
"We recorded 7 songs for our record titled Silent All These Years for Indecision Records, it comes out on October 6, 2023. There are so many elements to the lyrics and songs, along with the music that we are creating, I wanted to make sure the lyrics were just as important and stood out.
"The words from punk/hardcore bands have always been important to me and I definitely wanted to make sure my passion came through. When your heart is ripped apart by narcissist around you, when you don’t know who is real anymore, when trauma sets in from cultural experiences myself and others I know have gone through; the emotion comes out in the lyrics and it that flows with the music.
"We were able to get Rob Moran (Unbroken, Over My Dead Body, Narrows) to sing on the chorus on the song "Surveillance." Chris McQueen from the band Therapy also helped out with some vocals on the songs "No Rights" and "Keep Pulling It Back."
Future plans:
"We are playing two East Coast shows (In Philly). One with Unbroken and Blacklisted on October 27, the other on October 28 TBD venue wise. We will be doing a record release show in our hometown in November/December.
"Lastly, we are hoping to hit the Bay Area for a round of shows in early 2024. We are currently writing new songs and will record them next year as well."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Adult Crash are a powerhouse of thrash hardcore, they have a new record, All As One, definitely worth picking up! Closedown is a newer band, brutal and fast hardcore, check out their new EP, IV. Dispersed have a new single, 'Sick as a Dog,' it crushes! Nowhere Safe is another new heavy hardcore band getting some attention, they have a new single, 'One By One,' that is worth checking out.
