Band: Contain
From: Edmonton, Canada
Their formation story:
My older brother Josh (guitar, vocals) and I have been writing/playing music together forever. Growing up in a small town just outside Edmonton, it was difficult for either of us to find people with like-minded tastes in music.
"Because of this, the two of us have been writing music ourselves for years in various genres. Both of us are fans of heavy music, and we started a powerviolence project in 2019 which eventually started shifting more towards our current 90’s metallic hardcore sound."
Their sound in their own words:
"We’re influenced heavily by '90s hardcore, specifically darker and more metallic bands. Being straight edge is also a big part of the band’s identity, and we draw a lot of inspiration from '90s-era straight edge both musically and lyrically.
"We also both enjoy spacey melodic parts (Unbroken, Death) just as much as we like heavy breakdowns, and there are plenty of both on the EP."
Latest release info:
"Our demo, Prayer For Violence, was written and tracked in 4 days in our basement. We tracked everything ourselves, and we did the mixing and mastering as well. We’re pretty happy with how it turned out - the mix of melodic and heavy is a good sample of our sound right now, and it represents what we appreciate most about hardcore in general."
Future plans:
"We are always writing new material, so the main goal for us now is to get some new songs ready for release. We are also looking forward to booking some shows in Edmonton as well as eventually touring throughout western Canada.
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"False Body, Eyes Front, End Game, Boiling Lye, Pre Breaker, No Skies."
