Band: Buried Truth
From: Lexington, Kentucky
Their formation story:
"Kevin (guitar) and Justin (original drummer) started jamming right after COVID restrictions were letting up. Just a project for fun to finally get out of the house. An excuse to hang out and share their common interest in music. Both had played in bands in the local area on and off for years.
"After writing for a while, they realized what they had was pretty good and contemplated taking it out locally as a full band. Just so happened Doyle Huskey (bass), a local scene alum, had messaged Justin about doing something. He liked what he heard and fit right in.
"Shortly after that, we had Dan Brown (vocals), another local scene alum, swing into a rehearsal just to see if he’d be interested. We knew his longtime band, Left to the Wolves, had just gone on hiatus and we didn’t know if he’d be up for a new band so quickly. But after he heard the songs he got really excited and wanted in. Hence, the original lineup of Buried Truth was solidified."
Their sound in their own words:
"We have a wide range of influences even though it may not seem like it. I’d say overall as a band, we pull heavily from the pissed metalcore/hardcore genre of the mid-'00s. Martyr A.D., Advent, Blood Has Been Shed, and Remembering Never are 4 influences we always try to conjure. These are our big 4 of what will always be part of our sound because these bands are so ingrained in our psyche that we can’t remove them.
"But we definitely draw influence from newer artists as well. Mouth for War (RIP) and Jesus Piece are some more current influences. Individually, our influences vary immensely from person to person. From brutal death metal, to shoegaze, to pop punk. It’s all good."
Latest release info:
"Tortured Ascension is our newest EP released on 4/22. We recorded this at Bricktop Studios in Chicago with the great Pete Grossman engineering, mixing, and mastering it. Musically the songs are aggressive and pounding. These songs were written at a low point in our band actually.
"We knew Justin (drums) was gonna step away due to career and family obligations and we really didn’t know if we were gonna move forward with the band after we put the EP out. It was an amicable split and we all understand we’re not 20-year-olds anymore. We have careers and some of us have kids - that always has to be a priority.
"I really think this uncertainty pushed us to make every song stand out on its own and rip as hard as they could. We had the “let’s go out with a bang” mentality. Hearing it back for the first time after recording it, we couldn’t believe what we captured. We definitely wanted the band to continue and play these songs out to people."
Future plans:
"Future plans are to continue to push our EP by playing out more at least until mid summer. We have new members who’ve stepped in and they have been great. Cameron Covington, from the local scene and drummer for Berettas Akimbo, has taken on drums and has been a great addition.
"Zach Honeycutt was added on second guitar. Zach is a local scene alum and plays in one of our favorite local bands, Raptured. We have a run coming up in late July then after that we plan on tampering down on live events to focus on writing for a full length sometime next spring. It should be great writing with new members and even having Justin, our former drummer, as a collaborator."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"There are so many great bands representing the 859 area. All of these bands or members of them have helped us along the way so please, even if we’re not your cup of tea, please show them love. Retribution, Raptured, Age of Panic, True Threat, Eternal Wound, xGAARGOYLEx, These Eyes, Explode, ExecutionDC, Small Steps, Bodaggit, PondDigger, and StormToker are all bands in Lexington area.
"Regionally, check out Suffocate Faster, Saboteur, No Shot, No Grave, CastxDown, Landfilth, and Suicide Pact in the Cincinnati/Dayton area. Surfaced, Gates to Hell, Gooseflesh, King of the Monsters, Split Intentions, As She Prayed for God, Draped in Black, and Shattered Cranium in the Louisville/Indy locations. I’m sure there are more great ones I missed.
"But check these bands out and go down a rabbit hole. You’ll discover something you like and chances are they’re playing a show close to you."
