Band: Born Backwards

Their formation story:
(Jorge, drums/vocals): "Chris and I played in a few bands together over the last decade, so we have a very good understanding between us. Since we both play drums and guitar, everything is less complicated. We've also been friends with Mando for almost 30 years, but because he lived in Australia until recently and only visited occasionally, we never had the chance to play in a band together until now.
"I had the initial idea for Born Backwards back in 2020. At the time, Chris and I were playing in Miasmal Sabbath and some other projects, so the timing wasn't great, but we still jammed on a couple of songs during rehearsals. At the beginning of 2025, we finally found the time to focus on the project.
"We wrote around 20 songs, and that summer Mando decided to move back to Greece. I asked him if he'd like to handle bass duties, which he was more than happy to do, and we started rehearsing as a trio."
Their sound in their own words:
"Born Backwards represents the brutal side of fast hardcore: grindpunk with a raw urban street attitude, blending hardcore, grind, hip-hop, skate, and graffiti culture.
"I would bet any crazy noise freak who digs In Disgust, Lack of Interest, Rapturous Grief, Despise You, Excruciating Terror, and a touch of Incantation-style riffing barrage would enjoy it."
Latest release info:
"We recorded the album live, with the vocals and a second guitar overdubbed later. Everything was done in-house aside from the mastering. Mando is a sound engineer with some nice analog gear, and we have a rehearsal space for jamming, recording, and mixing, so it's a fun process.
"We ended up with 14 tracks plus an ominous rap intro that we made with our good friend DJ WAIF. Listening back, it felt like a proper release rather than a demo, so we decided to put it out as an album and launched a Bandcamp page for grind freaks to check it out while we look for a label to release physical copies."
Future plans:
"We have a bunch of new songs we're rehearsing, and we're jamming on new ideas and riffs a couple of times a week. We plan to record them by the end of the year. We'll also try to stay active with live gigs, although it's a bit difficult right now because we all have various commitments outside the band."
