Swedish d-beat veterans Disfear have announced The Last Nail, a new album featuring the final recorded performances of vocalist Tomas Lindberg and drummer Marcus Andersson, both of whom died before its release. The record arrives November 20 via Relapse Records.
Written over a 14-year period and recorded during the past three years, The Last Nail follows 2008’s Live the Storm. The band says Lindberg and Andersson both wanted the album released as soon as possible and were proud of their performances on the finished record.
“Before Marcus passed, he saw a final copy of the album, and we wish to share the same joy it brought him with you,” Disfear says. “Tomas and Marcus were extremely proud of their performances on this album, as we all are, and we invite you to hear their final performances on The Last Nail.”
The band has shared “Early Graves” as the first single from the eight-song album. Lindberg recorded his vocals at Welfare Sounds in Gothenburg in spring 2023, ultimately re-recording vocals for all eight tracks during the session. He received his cancer diagnosis later that year.
Instrumental sessions for The Last Nail took place at God City with Kurt Ballou and Welfare Sounds with Per Stålberg. Magnus Lindberg mixed the record at Redmount Studios, with Sören Von Malmborg handling mastering at Cosmos Mastering.
The album also carries the memory of former Disfear bassist Henrik Frykman, who died in 2011. “Since Live the Storm we have now lost three members of our band to cancer: Henrik, Tomas, and most recently Marcus,” the band says.
