Philadelphia’s PLQ MRX aren’t easy to pin down, and that’s exactly the point. The group is a loose collective that includes the owner of famed music venue Kung Fu Necktie, and a rotating cast of seasoned local players with ties to projects like Unsane, Ecstatic Vision, and Swans. The result is an experimental, anything-goes sound that draws as much from Captain Beefheart and The Butthole Surfers as from noise rock and punk.
On a recent Sunday afternoon, I caught up with vocalist Cleetus Alreetus Alrightus and guitarist/vocalist Midnight Moses to talk about the band’s latest moves. We discussed the making of their new album UPSIDEYERHEAD, due out later this month, as well as their unpredictable live shows and plans to hit the road this fall with Dopethrone.

UPSIDEYERHEAD will be out on February 16th via a split release between Reptilian Records in the U.S. and Totem Cat Records in Europe.
