Chicago-area melodic death metal band VOW recently released their debut EP, Death Will Be My Bridge, through Iron Fortress Records, delivering six tracks of riff-heavy aggression rooted firmly in classic Swedish melodeath while still carrying a hardcore edge.
Drawing influence from bands like Eucharist, early Soilwork, and Colony-era In Flames, VOW lean more toward melodic death metal than metalcore, though listeners familiar with bands like Darkest Hour will likely recognize some overlap in spirit and intensity.
For this new video interview, I caught up with guitarist/synth player Aaron O’Neill and vocalist Andy Klingensmith to discuss the new EP, the Chicago scene, local food spots, and what’s ahead for the band.
