Sunshine Coast, Queensland’s Thank U Please is a young band built on longtime friendships and a DIY spirit. Formed in late 2023, the group came together organically among friends who had known each other since childhood.
“Sal and Noah had been writing songs together quietly on acoustic guitars while Connor was overseas,” vocalist Salvadore Southall-O’Carroll tells No Echo. “When Connor got back, we started jamming properly and asked our childhood friend Blair—who we’d grown up skating with—to jump on drums. What started as a casual rehearsal pretty quickly turned into a real band.”
The band’s sound pulls from multiple directions. “It’s a mix of punk, hardcore, grunge, and alternative rock/metal,” he explains. “We aim for something heavy, rhythmic, and melodic, but still unpredictable. We like mixing ideas instead of locking ourselves into one formula.”
Their latest single, “Hell Awaits,” appears on the upcoming album, Government Approved Haircuts. “It’s our heaviest and most confronting song so far,” Southall-O’Carroll says. “Lyrically, it’s inspired by what’s happening in the world. There’s a rawness to it—we’re a young band and what you hear is what we truly believe.”
The new material also carries personal weight. Shortly after their 2024 debut, Southall-O’Carroll was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and much of the new album was written during his recovery. “Finishing it became the silver lining through a really dark time,” he says. “Coming out the other side and creating something we’re proud of means a lot.”
