During the first week of January every year, I run my 12 Newer Hardcore Bands to Check Out feature. In the most recent list, I included Swedish quintet Speedway, a group that leans into a fast-tempoed yet melodically inclined style of hardcore that keeps you coming back for more. Their self-titled 2020 debut EP delivers the goods.
Today, I'm happy to announce that Speedway have joined the Revelation Records roster. To celebrate the union, the band has dropped When If Not Now, a 5-song live session that their new label just put up for sale on cassette at RevHQ and digitally through Bandcamp.
When If Not Now features two previously unreleased Speedway tracks, plus a cover of "Hazel," a song originally written and released by '90s Swedish emo band, Far Apart.
Recorded, mixed, and mastered by André Ampuero at SBU HQ, and filmed and edited by Emanuel WGM, When If Not Now can be viewed below:
Formed in 2019, Speedway features musicians who some of you might know from their work in such bands as Blood Sermon, Existence, and Lifeblind.
“The music we play obviously springs from Youth Crew and OCHC, but our influences come from a much larger variety of places, both within and outside the realm of hardcore music. Whatever rocks in our ears has a big chance of being implemented in our sound in one way or another," vocalist Anton Larsson told No Echo last year.
Speedway will be releasing their sophomore EP, Paradise, through Revelation Records later this year. Stay tuned!
When If Not Now is available now on limited edition cassette via RevHQ, and you can also grab it on Bandcamp.
