Austin, Texas hardcore band Soul Exchange have been steadily building momentum since their debut appearance on No Echo. For the last couple of years, the quintet has stayed active on all fronts, releasing a three-song demo and a standalone single in 2025 while touring as much as possible. Now, they’ve doubled down on that momentum by teaming up with 1126 Records and State of Mind Touring. The goal is simple: stay busy and keep pushing forward.
That shift is rooted in a clearer sense of purpose. “The biggest change is probably our focus,” drummer Colby Cameron explains to No Echo. “We didn’t really have plans for the band to grow the way it did. Once we started picking up traction, we knew we were onto something and wanted to take things more seriously.” The lineup remains unchanged, and the core sound is still intact—but the intent behind it is sharper and more direct.
That mindset is evident on their upcoming EP, Slow Descent, which marks a noticeable step forward for the band. Working with Taylor Young (God's Hate, Twitching Tongues, Disgrace) on mixing and taking a more self-critical approach to songwriting, Soul Exchange have refined every detail—from structure and performance to lyrics and dynamics. “We were more methodical this time, knowing we want to move to the next level with touring and working with a label,” Cameron says.

On the road, Soul Exchange have continued to find their footing in new scenes across the country. Recent stops in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Tucson, Arizona, left a strong impression. “Both scenes gave us such a warm welcome,” Cameron says, shouting out Louisiana Hardcore and Still Cold Booking. “Every local band killed it, and the response to our first time there was amazing. Bands—don’t skip those cities.”
Outside of their own camp, the band is also keeping tabs on what’s happening in hardcore right now. Chicago’s xNullifyx gets a nod for their metallic straight edge sound, along with a long list of Texas bands pushing things forward, including Bailout, Worst Behavior, Paradise, Compulsion, Ballista, Fear of Loss, Visions of Mortality, and Spit My Rage.
Looking ahead, Soul Exchange have a packed schedule. A Southwest tour is set for early May, with plans to hit the Northeast later in the fall. And if everything lines up, this time next year could bring their first full-length release.
