The origin story behind Shillely began when vocalist Jerry started writing and demoing material back in 2023. From there, it was about finding the right people to bring it to life. “I recorded our first EP and began trying out musicians,” he tells No Echo. “Knowing it deserved life, I contacted our drummer, and he brought a band with him.”
What followed was immediate. Practices turned into shows, and the lineup locked into something that felt natural—split between Oklahoma City and Tulsa, but unified in purpose.
Sonically, Shillely pulls from a wide range of influences—everything from Blitz, G.I.S.M., and Discharge. It’s a mix that shouldn’t work on paper, but in practice, it creates something distinct. “We’ve been described as a unique brand of metallic Oi!,” Jerry says, “somewhere between 4-Skins, Rival Mob, and L7. Our sound is Oklahoma’s answer to traditional street rock, adding metallics, blues, and regional soul.”
That identity comes into focus on their latest release, Guardian Angel, with the first installment arriving as the single “Widowmaker":
The track was handled entirely in-house, recorded and mixed by the band in their own studio, with Noah stepping in as drum recording engineer. It’s a self-contained process that reflects the band’s overall DIY approach. “This release, our music, is solely made by, for, and dedicated to the authentic embodiments of what this music and culture were built on and are about,” Jerry says. “We earned that blood, did you?”
Beyond the band itself, Shillely are part of a growing underground Oklahoma music community that continues to stay active and diverse. “The music scene in Oklahoma is very much alive,” Jerry says. “There’s a flavor for everyone and a new show or two happening each week.”
He points to bands like Leash and Stand Your Ground as part of that movement—acts helping push things forward locally while keeping the energy consistent.
