Higher Walls is a British hardcore band that closed out 2024 by releasing a 3-song EP called Tear Them Down in the final weeks of the year. That's the first time they landed on No Echo's radar so we got some context from the band.
"Stefan (drums) and I have played in bands together since we were teenagers in Moldova," guitarist Radu told No Echo about Higher Walls' beginnings via email. "After moving to London, we wanted to focus on hardcore and reached out to Jordan (vocals) on a popular 'find a musician' website, later cementing the lineup with the addition of Chris on bass."
Higher Walls drummer Stefan took over from there: "'Leaders In Denial,' our first single, released just as COVID hit. Whilst it stopped us performing, we were able to build up a catalogue of demos and have slowly been perfecting and releasing them ever since."
Vocalist Jordan described the Higher Walls sound with the following: "Between the four of us, our influences are really varied. I think that's what helps us get this wild sound. It’s not always straightforward to define, but we can all agree that we fall under the umbrella of Hardcore. It's hardcore but with odd time signatures and jarring twists and turns that pack a punch. Someone called us the 'Meshuggah of Hardcore.' We're all just ripping off Meshuggah, right?"
Higher Walls just released "Cloak & Dagger," the first taste of their forthcoming EP, No End:
"'No End' is the best representation of the band to date," says bassist Chris. "We worked tirelessly to balance and streamline the songs as they now exist and are immensely proud at how they've come out." Frontman Jordan adds: "Thematically, No End covers a range of themes; from the power the coming generations have to make positive change, to the bleak landscape we currently find ourselves in globally."
Chris takes a moment to shout out the local hardcore community Higher Walls is proudly part of:
"There's so many good bands in the UK scene and the London scene in particular is so diverse. Both Cut & Run Collective and E8HXC in London have really looked to champion UK hardcore and have done a lot for us and the scene in general. They have strived to make the scene a welcoming space for new bands, bring prestigious acts to smaller London venues and ensure everyone is welcome."
