Glass Delusion is the latest band to surface from Louisville's ever-active hardcore underground. With members who have played in Shitfire, Deady, Sunshine, Xeonxeonxeon, and Aon Brasi, the project began when Sam Woodring and Reeves set out to push into heavier, darker territory than their previous work.
"We wanted to do something a little heavier and darker than other things we're currently involved with," Woodring tells No Echo. "Sam and Reeves wanted to write some songs together and started jamming, and Luke joined shortly after."
The band's sound sits at the intersection of hardcore, punk, and screamo, but resists easy classification. The Glass Delusion guitarist/vocalist cites Full of Hell, Majority Rule, Crownhate Ruin, and Deadguy as key influences, summing up Glass Delusion's approach as "noisy and fast."
On Glass Delusion's self-titled debut EP, Woodring mines lyrical inspiration from his experiences working in healthcare. "A lot of the songs are about the sense of futility that comes with dealing with that whole system," he says.
"Louisville has an incredible scene right now," says Woodring. "Lots of venues, tons of energy, and lots of all-ages stuff." He also recommends fellow Louisville acts Mirrorless, Barclay's, Cell Intruder, and Total Flesh.
Looking ahead, Glass Delusion has several August shows on the calendar, including a handful of out-of-town dates, while continuing to write and demo new material.
