Band: Ultimatum
From: New England
Their formation story:
(Nick Birtles, drums): "Ultimatum is the first band Evan and I started working on when he moved to Rhode Island for school. The demo and the EP we're about to put out are some of the first songs Ev ever wrote getting into hardcore as a teenager.
"After some lineup changes, we solidified the band as myself, Evan, Cesar, Trang Anh, and Harrison. Most of Ultimatum's catalog was written shortly after the band's official formation, so these songs have been sitting in the tank for a while and I'm stoked they're finally seeing the light of day."
Their sound in their own words:
"Our influences are kind of all over the place, to be honest. When this upcoming EP was written, we were listening to a lot of Black My Heart and Bury Your Dead and I think you can kind of hear it. Cesar, our vocalist, is a scholar and references philosophy and literature while tying in the fact we're a vegan straight edge band."
Latest release info:
"Still Alive is a four track follow up to our demo coming out on Life & Death Brigade Records very soon. As I said above, we've been sitting on these songs for a while and the story of Ultimatum plays into the title. This band has hit a lot of speed bumps along the way that ultimately could've been the 'let's call it here' point, but everyone's pushed through and we're happy to still be here.
"We're all huge fans of what Tyler and Ashton have done at LDB and when Tyler was down to put it on wax, it was a no brainer. I don't remember how it came up but Cesar and I were nerding out about Portal one day and that reference fit the band well, so we ran with it as the title for the fourth track and the EP."
Future plans:
"There aren't any crazy plans on the board right now. Evan and I are in a band called Anklebiter. Evan and Harrison are in a band called Broken Vow. Those two bands sort of usurp most of our free time when we're not working or dealing with school, so Ultimatum can only play so much.
"We'll for sure do a record release show for this 7-inch that'll have as many homies on the bill as we can. That's about it as of right now."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Check out Deal With God, Through and Through, Crucial Point, Cross of Disbelief, Gigan Animal Thugs, Hard Feelings, Skud, and Utility. Peace."
