Band: Throwe
From: Copenhagen, Denmark
Their formation story:
"Throwe spawned three years ago from the ashes of a previous Copenhagen-based metal band, Justinhate. Our vision for Throwe was to create something more caustic, raw, black, bleak. We’ve been called a United Nations hardcore band, as we comprise of Danes, a Brit, an Argentinian and a Netherlander. I guess we take influences from where we grew up, and being so international as a band gives up a broad palette of influences and input."
Their sound in their own words:
"We come diverse musical backgrounds, but our common thread is a love of hardcore: '80s, '90s, and '00s. It’s also impossible to live in Scandinavia and not be influenced by the bleak weather conditions and the incredible legacy of black metal and death metal.
"So, I guess, that is what sums up Throwe’s sound—bleak hardcore with an edge of black metal, otherwise called blackened hardcore."
Latest release info:
"2022’s Fordald is a labour of love, painstakingly conceived over the course of two and a half years. ‘Forfald’ means ‘decay’ in Danish and is a straightforward and honest record about the struggle of life. A struggle against constant decay before the inevitable finality of death. The lyrics are both song in our native tongue as well as a few English one.
"We approached a number of super cool record labels to be a part of the release, and we were honoured to eventually work together with some labels we have admired for a long time. Forfald is now available on LP, CD, and cassette thanks to the hard work of nine international hardcore/metal labels. Without these kinds of people there truly is no underground scene."
Future plans:
"Outside of music we are busy individuals, so 3-week tours are a challenge for us. At the moment, we have a number of cool shows throughout spring and summer. Besides that we are planning to enter studio later this year to either record an EP or a split LP. So get in touch if you want to do a split with us!"
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"The scene has honestly never been so strong and fertile in Denmark. It feels like there is something in the water—every month there are great new releases and more shows than one person can possibly attend. There are so many disparate sounds and a lot of genre-bending—there’s certainly no lack of self-confidence in bands striking out and making their own sound, which is exactly what makes the scene so exciting.
"There is also a number of great people who work behind the scenes that contribute to the scene just as much as musicians—promoters, photographers, and volunteers. Without these folks the wheels of the scene would seize up. There are too many great bands to name drop, but to give you a microcosm as insight—check out our practice-space friends in Foreshadower and Telosand EYES."
