Band: Sunbloc
From: Albany, New York
Their formation story:
"Sunbloc essentially was a side-project at first, with the vision of sounding like Priests and Bully. Keefer and Sean first started jamming around 2018 after Sean came across a Craigslist’s ad looking for a drummer. Keefer and Matt were already playing music together in a hardcore band called Spell Runner.
"Steadily writing music and touring as much as they could, toward the end of that project, Sunbloc started to be taken more seriously. Pushing the sound in the direction of early Lemonheads. We found Nick around 2020 through the internet, as well. Funny enough, his practice space was right next door to the rest of us. Recently, we found a second guitarist named Evan, and he’s been a dope addition to Sunbloc."
Their sound in their own words:
"In all honesty, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly what we trying to sound like, especially since we have three EPs out with distinct sounds. Every member of the band listens to many different types of music and pulls influences from all over the spectrum.
"We collectively love acts such as Lemonheads, Failure, Righteous Jams, and Alice In Chains, but at the same time don’t fully sound like any of those bands. Let's leave it at Painkiller Records meets Evan Dando’s living room."
Latest release info:
"We needed a palate cleanser for many reasons. We love '90s alt.rock and that’s the general vibe we go for and will return to, but for E.A.A.T. we just wanted it to be classic hardcore, loud and pissed off. That's where we come from, that's what we know, that's what we like. Boston Strangler, BIB, Hoax, Primitive Blast, these were the ingredients chosen to make the perfect rip off EP."
Future plans:
"We’re already demoing and writing new stuff. That’s the usual move for Upstate NY winters, at least for us. We’re planning a couple two tree weekends in the spring/summer and hopefully pushing out another ep sometime in 2025. Write, Record, Rock, Repeat, again and again and again."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"The Albany Music scene is filled with many different acts and genres that is hard to cover everyone, but we strongly suggest that people should take the time to listen to Prize, Cold Kiss, Halo Bite, Spiritkiller, Cinnamon, Bad Impressions, Wet Specimens, Bruiser and Bicycle, Laveda, Flavor, 20 Spiders, Monster X, Devoid of Faith, Drug Church, XreptarX."
