Band: Public Threat
From: San Antonio, Texas
Their formation story:
"Back between 2021-2022, our guitarist, Frank, and drummer, Louie D., had been jamming and wanted to make a simple beatdown band. By 2022, the boys recruited Bryan as the vocalist, by which the style shifted in a more serious and angry approach, rewriting lyrics.
"By 2023, we recruited our friend izaiah on bass, who also played in Upsurge at the time. In 2024, we recruited our friend, Dom, who also plays in Fear of Loss and Sanity Slip. By 2024/2025, we are at our best as a unit."
Their sound in their own words:
"Originally, the band began as just a beatdown/call out band. As the band evolved, we implemented anger from real-life situations and used this as a face for the band. The band is aggressive, relentless, in your face, and hate fueled, a manifestation of everyone's trauma and rage. The sound is more metallic now, a more complex version of who we were at our core. We are aiming to create an ominous atmosphere for the audience to pick apart and create conversation.
"We are very much inspired by video games and their soundtracks and soundscapes, such as Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Manhunt, and Evil Within. Some of our musical influences include Simulakra, Vein.fm, Year of the Knife, Irate, Sanction, Missing Link, Invoke, Vicious Embrace, Shattered Realm, Demonstration of Power, Discontent, and Machine Head."
Latest release info:
"The newest release is a double single titled Suffer / Condemned. 'Suffer' was the first fully written song by the band, when we went by another name. We finally recorded this song in 2024. In the song we ask how people can let themselves be so evil and careless, especially with sexual harrassment and abuse. We then wish evil and hurt towards these horrible people.
"When the song was written, we were reminded of not only those people, but others in our personal lives who were also horrible to those we love. The texas scene does not take allegations lightly and tries to take immediate action, showing horrible people when they arent welcome here- even shown by force."
"'Condemned' is the first song written entirely by our new lineup, with all of us in one room. We believe this song is the most complex in our catalog, and the best. 'Condemned' is a plethora of anger, self acknowledgement, self doubt, family issues and in the end, grief due to death. Ultimately, writing lyrics for this band has allowed me (Bryan) to pick myself apart and ask if im capable to overcome struggles in my life. 'Condemned' is a big part in this.
"The song is a journey of feeling at your lowest and still being kicked down by life's challenges- creating a metaphor of will we make it to Heaven?Along with this creates doubt and concern for those we've lost in our life recently, and those we were close to losing. As a whole release, it is a portal to a world manifested by these negative feelings and challenges.
"The samples used are from video games that we believe hold the piece together as one fluid being. The song at the end of 'Suffer' brings you to a halt where you feel safe for a couple seconds- only to be bombarded with voices in your head that lead to the sample: 'have you ever seen God?' leading into a dark journey that is 'Condemned.'"
What are the future plans for the band in the coming months?
"Into the new year of 2025, we plan to play more shows and hopefully play outside of San Antonio. Hopefully, we put out some physical releases of the 2-song single and our 2023 demo. We are in the early stages of planning the next release, hopefully a new EP with completely new songs, new writing style and new influences.
"We are also in talks of creating a world around Public Threat, putting out ominous and mysterious forms of media for people to get their hands on and engage in this world."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Fear of Loss, Fawn, Cement Diver, Palefade, Maldito Dios, Born Savage, Warstories, Fifteen Rhema, Gray Arbor, Postal, Ghosthouse, Harcourt, Scathe, No One Winz, Sanity Slip, Joust, Inner Self, Houses We Die In, Morta, Voracious Contempt, and Chained In Sin."
