New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Pine Box

Band: Pine Box
From: Olympia, Washington

Their formation story:
"Pine Box was originally formed out of spite. We were all fed up with the direction and lack of care by some of the bands we were in at the time. Jonny (vocals) and Bret Skipworth (drums) left the project they were in together and had a vision for something else. After leaving, talks happened quickly with Brandon Porter (guitar), who had been looking for fresh air himself. Brandon had left his band at the right time for us.

"Rounding out our full lineup didn’t happen until a year later when we started to play shows. We wanted to bring a strong fourth member in and James Chappell (bass) couldn’t have been a better fit. Jumping in with only a few weeks notice to learn all our songs before a show... he crushed it and we never looked back."

Their sound in their own words:
"Heavy hardcore/deathcore."

Latest release info:
"'White Shoulders' is our latest release. Sonically the song has a heavy bass undertone that makes it easy to knock your head to. Lyrically, this song means the absolute most to me(Jonny). My mother passed away when I was 10, and I found her body after waking up one morning for school. The song takes the listener through what I saw and how I felt that morning."

Future plans:
"Stay busy. We release our next single, 'Stupid,' on June 30th, just ahead of playing this year's Cold Bloom Fest in Seattle on July 1st. From there, we’ll be finishing up recording and mixing our next two singles. Some tours are also in the works."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"
Eyas/Luna, Kaizo, and Lilith. have been our day one closest friends and favorite bands to play with here in the Puget Sound area."
