Band: Opposing Force
From: Bay Area, California
Their formation story:
(Will, vocals): "Me and Ryan started getting together in November 2023 to jam out some songs. Ryan plays bass in xadherencex with me and we had discussed doing a band that was like '80s hardcore style where everything was recorded and done super DIY style in the vein of the Mosher's Delight Records and Designated Mosher's Unit democore kinda stuff that we really liked.
"We started writing a couple songs and just pretty much by the end of the year we had a few written. In January we recorded them ourselves and by February we had the demo out and found some of our close friends to play the songs with us."
Their sound in their own words:
"Our style is definitely drawing inspiration from the New York City Hardcore: The Way it Is compilation, especially bands like Sick of It All, Breakdown, and Outburst."
Latest release info:
"We just recorded a couple new songs plus a cover that should be out in the next few weeks or so, hopefully more information on that soon! Otherwise you can pick up hand-dubbed copy of our demo through my zine, Power Core Fanzine, on Instagram, or email: [email protected].
Future plans:
"We just got back from a small West Coast tour with another band that I play in with Krishna Das called Invocation and those shows were awesome. I think people really enjoyed all of our sets and we made so many good friends, ate lots of good vegan food, and saw some beautiful places.
"We have a gig next week (11/16) in Oakland, California at Tamarack with From One Hell, Stand Tall, and Wiseguy. After that, we will probably keep playing local shows and writing a couple more songs. We would love to do another tour maybe something in the Southwest, who knows!"
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Other bands from the Bay Area you should check out right now include: From One Hell, One Last Prayer, Natural Human Instinct, Stand Tall, Bite the Hand, Invocation, Field of Flames, Condition One, Forced to Suffer, Rule of Thumb, Impurity, Complex, Clique, Eightfold Path, Manos De Fierro, Angel, xfaminex, As My Ashes Blur the Sky, Fever.
"The Bay Area is so dope for hardcore music right now. Shoutout to RNRG and Crossthread for making sure there are all ages shows in so many parts of the Bay."
