Band: DDT
From: Cleveland, Ohio
Their formation story:
(Cian, vocals): "DDT started as something fun for me and some pals to jam some riffs we wrote with my friends Ben (guitar) and Jonah (bass). Eventually, we wanted to get a little more serious about it so we asked our friend Sal to come in and play drums. This record Silent Spring is our first attempt at making a cohesive record in a specific style of hardcore."
Their sound in their own words:
"We’re a power violence band. Blast Beats and mosh parts is what we like to do. Straight to the point. Bands we pull a lot from are Soul Swallower, Sex Prisoner, Water Torture, Mind Eraser, and Purity Control."
Latest release info:
"Silent Spring is our debut as a power violence band. We wrote some tunes before but they didn’t fit the sound we wanted to continue with going forward. Silent Spring is our way of speaking out about the atrocities our government subjects its people to: through polluting our planet, silencing our voices, and enforcing the status quo.
"The name 'Silent Spring' is actually the title of a book written by Rachel Caron in 1962, and was one of the first to speak out against the environmental damage the chemical industry and government did through use of the DDT insecticide in WWII.
"Rachel’s book accused the government of being complacent with the lies being told by the corporations to keep selling their product. Silent Spring, as a release from us, is our way of doing the same."
Future plans:
"We have a few shows booked and then we’ll be back to writing again. Playing Athens, Ohio Oct. 19, Cleveland 10/20, and Indianapolis 11/9."
What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Ungrounded, Grouch, Grudge, Walking Wounded, Chain Rule, Overflow, Flat Six, Rejoice, Slug, anyone making hardcore music in Ohio."
