xserenityx is a new Swedish band that came together quickly, sparked by a single Instagram story after a hardcore fest in Linköping. Guitarist Bill put out a call for anyone interested in starting a metalcore band.
Lynn, living nearly 180 miles away, responded. What began as a group chat soon morphed into a quintet that delivers chaotic metallic hardcore and early-2000s metalcore influences.
Distance hasn’t slowed xserenityx. On their just-released demo, No One Waits When You're In Disguise, the band already sounds tightly focused. "I would say our biggest influences are State Craft, Balmora, Shattered Realm, and Undying," vocalist Lynn tells No Echo about their sonic mindset.
They tracked their first release themselves in the rehearsal space, with Gustaf Uicic from Harder Recordings lending a hand. Lynn recalls that the demo and an extra song came together in about two and a half days, though the process was far from smooth.
“It probably would’ve been even faster if our drummer Herman didn’t throw up the first day because his stomach couldn’t handle the bean sprouts in his Thai food,” Lynn tells No Echo. On the final day, stress peaked when bassist Alvar arrived early to prepare for vocals and found the project files missing. “We sat in the studio for over an hour just trying not to panic,” Lynn says.
In the end, everything had been saved, just exported in the wrong format. Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios mastered the finished tracks, adding raw intensity while keeping the band’s melodic edge intact.
xserenityx see themselves as part of a new wave of younger Swedish hardcore bands pushing the scene forward. Lynn highlights Sidestep, Godless, Devils Exchange, and Ceaseless as bands to watch in the region. The next few months are already packed. xserenityx plan to record more songs this summer and are preparing for live shows, including dates in Norway in August.
