Manchester, New Hampshire, has always been a stronghold for hardcore. The Jewel, The Bungalow, and The Shaskeen have all played their part in shaping the city’s scene, turning Manchester into a proving ground for new bands. Wise Choice is the latest to step up, debuting in January with a show alongside Chillen, Cooked, Headcase, and Upon Broken Apologies. Their three-song demo, Demonstration, followed soon after.
Wise Choice came together in November 2025 after Heavyweight split. Cam, who fronted Heavyweight, wanted to keep things heavy but cut out the death metal and focus on hardcore’s roots. Hammer Bros., Shipwreck, and The Bonus Army are all touchstones for the band, shaping a sound that’s faster, leaner, and built on hard-hitting riffs. The early 2010s Merrimack Valley scene left a mark, too. For Cam, that era remains one of the most raw and influential periods in New England Hardcore.
Before they even released any music, Wise Choice took an approach that feels increasingly rare in today's hardcore landscape: they played a show. Wise Choice didn’t wait for a demo to make their first move. They played live before anyone had heard a note. In a scene where most bands drop music online before stepping onstage, they went straight for it. The risk paid off. The crowd’s reaction said it all. It was marked with boulder-sized riffs, Cam's furious vocal delivery, and breakdowns capable of turning any room upside down. The opening track, "Wise Choice," serves as a slow-burning introduction to both the band and the release. Chugging riffs, crashing cymbals, and tension-building guitar lines provide the perfect soundtrack for a floor full of dancers looking to make an impact.
"Lowest Low" immediately intensifies, featuring some of Cam's most vicious vocal performances. The sheer energy behind his delivery is impressive, particularly during the song's faster sections. Naturally, the track concludes with a crushing breakdown that lands exactly where it needs to.
The demo's final track, "First to Run," is arguably its most dynamic moment. It opens with ominous bass lines from Matty backed by steady drumming before erupting into another barrage of heavy riffs. Lyrically, Cam targets people who talk a big game but disappear when it's time to back up their words. The song closes with one of the demo's most memorable lines: "I've been calling your bluff since day one. When push comes to shove, you're the first to run!"
For Cam, Wise Choice is a way to channel old frustrations and whatever’s weighing on him now. "As far as the lyrics go, it's just pain," he explains. "I use the lyrics to release all my discontent for whatever it is that day. Sometimes my home life as a kid, sometimes people's actions, whatever is clouding my mind at the moment."
Those themes push Demonstration beyond just another heavy hardcore demo. It’s a focused, charged first statement from a band intent on making themselves heard. The demo came out on Maine’s SVU Records. The band tracked it at guitarist Jonny’s place, with Josh Brenner at Ear Shot Audio handling the mix and master. It’s just three songs, but Wise Choice already has more lined up. "We are going to continue to drop music," Cam says. "We have another three songs on deck ready to rock!"
For the rest of 2026, Wise Choice plans to keep busy and play every show they can across New England. "We have a bunch of stuff in the works, but nothing is solid yet, so I can't really speak on it," Cam says. "Just know we are playing with a lot of hard-ass touring bands around the New England area!"
With deep roots in New England hardcore, Wise Choice is set to stay visible across New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, and beyond. Demonstration makes their mission clear: play heavy, stay honest, and represent Manchester with pride.
