Truth Be Told: Mexican Band Shows Love for Hardcore Community on “Truth Krew”

The Mexicans are at it again.

As a follow up to their 2023 debut LP, Crónicas, Truth Be Told from Mexicali, Mexico brings us their newest release – an EP aptly titled Truth Krew. Recorded, mixed, mastered, and released by Little Hammer Records — which is their bassist’s Armando’s label — the EP is comprised of 4 songs – maintaining their own traditional hardcore sound but with a slight influence from bands such as Australia’s very own Speed.

With art done by SHEB, it’s safe to say this record sounds different from their previous work, but you still know you’re listening to the Mexican outfit.

When asked about the release, vocalist Marco Torres mentioned:

“2025 marks 10 years as an active band for us, and we wanted to make an EP as a thank you to all our homies who have been with us since day one and welcomed us in during this time. With this, we want to say 'This is Truth Be Told' in terms of attitude and music, while maintaining our roots and essence. Four tracks of our own hardcore music."

Opener “Truth Krew” comes out the gate with the heavy riffs that characterize the Mexican band, that reminisces of early 2010s East Coast hardcore. Marco also claims this as his personal favorite off the recording because of the meaning, since the song “is dedicated to everyone who has ever been involved in the project, our friends, family, promoters, and supporters." He also mentioned this is a homage to hardcore in general and to their main influences, such as Terror, Trapped Under Ice, Backtrack, Incendiary, and 2010s hardcore altogether.

Also, this song has a music video where the band wanted to capture how we manage their shows (DIY) and how much fun they have doing it, as the vocalist puts it. The video was produced by Alejandro Galvan, drummer for the band Omega. You can follow his work on Instagram here

Second in line, "Oveja Negra Vol. 2" comes out with a heavy-punchy riff. As bassist Armando says, “this is an entertaining song for us. It’s something different from what we’ve previously written, since it has a lot of elements we’ve always been afraid of using." I can personally say they did a great job putting this together. The icing on the cake is a feature including Armando from Mexico City’s very own Uno a Uno (check them out, too!).

Next up is “No Somos Iguales," another different song from what the band usually does but quite interesting to listen to! With thoughtful lyrics, the band showcases what they stand for as individuals: keeping your attitude in check.

As for what the future holds, Truth Be Told just finished a quick run in Mexico – having played Tijuana with Absolve Me, as well as in Hermosillo with Guadalajara’s very own Omega.

“Con muchas fallas igual que tú, sin juicios y con buena actitud, esto es Truth Krew!”
