Since I have friends here in the Los Angeles area who frequently drive down to Mexico to play DIY shows, I know there's a thriving hardcore scene there right now. That brings us to Tijuana's No Grata.
"The band formed late 2023/early 2024 with members from bands like Billy Brown, Surgat, Burned Offerings, and Infinitum Obscure to make fast and energetic music, with lyrics ranging from social issues, personal issues, and social angst," says vocalist Francisco Gamez.
No Grata recently released their debut EP, Embajadores de la Muerte. and though the lyrics are all in Spanish, one doesn't have to speak the language to get the point. "I would say we play a mix of metal/hardcore with some black metal influences," Francisco offers.
"We love bands like Nails, Lock Up, Sepultura, Hypocrisy, and Immortal."
No Grata will keep moving the band forward now that the EP is out there. "We plan on touring, hopefully next year, write new songs, and record a full album."
Here are some of the current Mexican bands Francisco recommends No Echo readers check out:
- The Red Awakening
- Muerte En Aceite
- Attention Monger
- VSME
- Honor and Blood
- Canidos
- Ogrish Demeanor
