LifeLine Records have announced that pre-orders are now up for the expanded reissue of the Joe Coffee record, When the Fabric Don’t Fit the Frame.
For those who may not know, Joe Coffee is another musical project by Sheer Terror vocalist Paul Bearer. While Bearer always infuses that good ol’ rock 'n' roll vibe into everything he does, Joe Coffee really focuses more on that sound. It’s wonderful too.
"It's rock 'n' roll, it's punk," Paul said in a 2008 Crucial Mosh interview about Joe Coffee. "I want to bring more of a soul thing into it. Northern soul, with a horn section, eventually — I hope, I pray. But I'm still writing about growing up and trying to do your bit. All my friends are fucked up or criminals, and I would never turn my back on them, but I want everybody to do better. To put that into music. The girls are getting it more than the guys right now, which is cool. The guys are gonna' realize, 'hey, he's still one of us.'"
Interestingly, the band self-released When the Fabric Don’t Fit the Frame in 2007, with Europe’s I Scream Records giving it the reissue treatment in 2018, but that was a very limited pressing.
So, Joe at LifeLine Records has picked up the torch here to give this record a new life. And this pressing adds two songs to the original LP, including a previously unreleased original and a cover of “Jump in the River," a song originally written and recorded by Sinéad O'Connor that appeared on the soundtrack to the 1988 Michelle Pfeiffer comedy, Married to the Mob.
The sound, lyrics, and aesthetic are classic Paul Bearer but with a distinctly different feel than what he does with Sheer Terror, and that’s a remarkable achievement itself.
