Hold Me Tight first came together in the immediate aftermath of the COVID lockdown in Italy, though vocalist and lyricist Francesca says it didn’t fully become a true unit until she entered the picture. “Some of the members were already playing together, but it wasn’t Hold Me Tight yet,” she tells No Echo. “The project really took shape when I joined. I gave the band its name and started writing the lyrics for our first EP.”
That early momentum was interrupted by something much bigger than music. “After the EP, everything suddenly paused,” Francesca says. “I was diagnosed with womb cancer, and the band stopped until I was able to come back and start again.” Their eventual return to the stage in late 2024 marked a clear turning point, giving the band a renewed sense of focus and urgency.
That shift can be heard on “No Turning Back,” the first taste from a larger project coming soon from the group. Recorded and mixed by Alberto Bandino at CutFireStudio, the song pushes Hold Me Tight further into a colder, more stripped-back direction. “At the core, we come from hardcore and metal,” Francesca says, “but what we’re doing now is evolving into something a bit wider.”
Though the newer material leans more toward modern metal, it does so without sacrificing intensity. Instead, the band seems more interested in tension and contrast, moving between direct impact and more restrained moments. Vocally, that means a wider emotional range as well. “It moves across different approaches,” Francesca explains, “from more aggressive tones to grunge-inspired textures, clean parts, and melodic sections.”
Lyrically, “No Turning Back” is rooted in a deeply personal experience. “It’s tied to a toxic relationship I had to face during one of the darkest periods of my life,” she says. That emotional weight runs through the track, but it isn’t all rage.
“There’s a strong sense of anger in the song, but also a kind of awareness and acceptance.” The chorus shifts into something more open and melodic, mirroring that realization. “It’s almost like sinking into the situation and finally recognizing it for what it was,” Francesca says. “It’s both empowering and heavy at the same time.”
Hold Me Tight are also working within the realities of a smaller, more isolated local scene in Cagliari, where members help organize the annual Cagliari HC Fest and put on local shows whenever possible. “The scene here is quite small and a bit isolated,” Francesca says. “It’s not always easy, especially when it comes to logistics and costs, but we keep pushing and building something anyway.” She points to bands like For Different Ways, Regrowth, and Lastbreath as names worth checking out from the area.
For now, Hold Me Tight are deliberately taking their time with what comes next. “We’re working on something that unfolds over time rather than all at once,” Francesca says. Each release is meant to stand on its own while feeding into a broader story that will reveal itself piece by piece.
