Fracture NJ is a metalcore band from New Jersey. They've released a slew of singles and two EPs to date: Reflections of Regret (2022) and Serenity's Decay (2024).
I sat down with the group to discuss their history together, new single, “Guilt Remains," and life in the Garden State.
Introduce yourselves.
Devin Hasselbrink- vocals/guitar
Mason Keith- drums
Donny Wess- bass
How long has Fracture been active, and how did you all come together?
We have been active since August 2021, releasing our first single early 2022. Mason and Devin were in an old project together that broke up. Going from 4 members to 2, we sort of naturally came up with the name Fracture. Donny came along after we put out our second EP, Serenity's Decay. We were looking for a bass player and he happened to be at a couple of our shows. We started talking and we had instant chemistry.
Tell us about your experience coming from the underground New Jersey music scene.
We’re from a couple different towns in Middlesex County but we got our real start in the New Brunswick scene. We like to call New Brunswick our home. The vibrant DIY scene is where we cut our teeth and play with all different kinds of bands, either in a basement, coffee shop, or church.
The only con about New Brunswick is that outside of the city its tough to find a venue in central Jersey…and also the New Brunswick parking situation is what some would call a nightmare.
What are some of your musical influences?
The Acacia Strain, Poison the Well, Eighteen Visions, Emmure, old Vanna (but they are back now), Dying Wish, Orthodox, Kaonashi, Counterparts, and Gideon.
Tell us about the new material you're currently working on.
This new record that we are tacking in the summer, is pissed. We’re taking the best ideas from our 2 EPs and combining them. Really taking the anger from the Reflections of Regret and weaving it into the sad and angsty elements of Serenity’s Decay.
Through this writing process we have ended up with a lot of really angry-sad songs. Our new single, "Guilt Remains," is the perfect example of it. The lyrics take hold of the sadder side while the music itself is hyper aggressive.
What are some bands from your area you’d recommend?
Jawdust, Float Omen, Sewn Away, Final Resting Pose, Eric Raven, Torn Open, Life of Deceit, Tarcil, Sunburner, Seven Crimson Sons, Redwoods.
What are the touring plans for now?
Small regional weekenders, northeast coast, southeast coast possibly coming in the late summer/early fall. Definitely wanting to branch out more
Anything else you'd like to mention?
Check out our new single, "Guilt Remains." This song for us feels like we’re finally coming into our own. Check out the music video on YouTube and playlist that shit. If you don't know who we are, but you find yourself feeling sad and angry a lot, we're the perfect band for you.
Come to shows and talk to us, there is always a second mic during our set for you, so learn the words and take it.
