Greek hardcore band Conceive didn’t form with a long-term plan. As guitarist George explains, “All of us played in different bands through the years, but with the exception of Chris, our bass player, we weren’t still active.” The initial goal was simple. “We started with no intention to write an album but to find some time to feel the vibe.” Reuniting around the sound they grew up on, the band began jamming ’90s hardcore purely for the feeling. “We liked the result,” George says, “and after some months we talked about writing a record.”
That foundation is clear in the band’s sound. “When we started, we wanted to sound like a ’90s Good Life [Recordings] band,” George notes, but their influences quickly widened. “We love so many bands from that decade, each with their own style, so you’ll hear a lot of different sounds across the album.”
Conceive draws heavily from all forms of ’90s metallic hardcore, with George citing All Out War, Ringworm, Disembodied, Trial, and Morning Again as key influences. European hardcore is just as important. “Bands like Arkangel, Acme, and Congress made a huge impact on us,” he adds. For new listeners, George puts it simply: “If you’re into those bands, or newer ones like Magnitude and Contention, you’ll probably like our sound.”
That approach comes through on Conceive’s upcoming debut, Changes in Perspective—a concise, forceful statement. “It’s 10 tracks, 24 minutes of straight ’90s metallic hardcore,” George says. “Fast riffs, heavy chugs, mosh parts, and politically charged lyrics.” The record was born from instinct, not calculation, and captures the urgency that brought the band together in the first place.
Despite only playing two shows so far, Conceive are already looking ahead. “We’re planning to release the album on vinyl and CD around April–May 2026 and play more shows to support it,” George explains. The band isn’t standing still, either. “We’re already working on new material—writing new tracks is always a good idea.”
Conceive also see themselves as part of a broader Greek hardcore lineage that hasn’t always gotten international attention. “Greek hardcore was never that popular outside Greece,” George admits, “but there have always been some crucial bands, both past and present.” While earlier acts like Naytia, Antimob, and Ruined Families are no longer active, he points to My Turn, Malignant, Against All Odds, and Runs Deep as bands still carrying that torch.
