New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Khasm

Band: Khasm
From: Las Vegas, Nevada

Their formation story:
(Jett, guitar/vocals): "We formed in late 2021 in Las Vegas, Nevada. There’s really no other explanation for us forming other than that I wanted to play in a band that was exactly the type of shit I wanted to hear in hardcore today. I’ve played and toured in bands for years but this feels like my first project that’s truly what I want to do.

"I grabbed a couple of my best friends that I’ve played in bands with before to do it and we’ve been working hard on it nonstop ever since. Gabriel (bass/vocals) sang for a great Vegas hardcore band called Misdirection for a while but didn’t have a project at the time and wanted to learn bass too, so that worked out perfect.

Jack (drums) and I played in a couple other Vegas hardcore bands World Tension and Close Combat together and have been close ever since. Erik (guitar) was a good friend that came straight from the Vegas doom/death scene with his band Plague Doctor. I really wanted someone who knew how to write heavy ass riffs NOT from a hardcore mentality, ya know?"

Their sound in their own words:
"We pull mostly from NOLA sludge and doom bands like Crowbar and Eyehategod, with a heavy hand from '90s Northeast hardcore like Stigmata, Neglect, and Stout."

Latest release info:
"We dropped the demo in early 2022 and just played shows in Vegas until we went to record the EP that we went on to release in January 2023. After that we just kept playing Vegas shows nonstop until we did a handful of shows with my other band Vomit Forth, along with a couple out of town one-offs like Mosh for Youth fest in Pomona, California.

"We then did an East Coast tour in June of last year with our other band Imprizon, along with a solo weekender through California a couple months later. And now we’re on our first full tour with Kruelty and Terminal Nation and I couldn’t be more grateful for it.

"We just released the first single, 'Theater of War,' off of our upcoming LP that we spent all of December recording with Ryan Bram at Homewrecker studios. We’ve been playing that song for months and we love playing it so much and it’s just sick to see it getting the love we think it deserves."

Future plans:
"We have a couple more days on this tour, then we fly to Mexico City to support Kruelty on one of their Mexico tour dates, then fly back and play one more show with them and Deadbody at the Midnight Hour in the San Fernando Valley on January 30th.

"After that our only plans are to put the LP out in April and just tour and play shows as much as we can this year."

What other bands from your region should we check out?
"We have such a strong hardcore scene in Vegas right now and I couldn’t be more proud. Couple great bands being Thousand Wayz 2 Die, Scrutiny, Anguish Cry, Spelling Hands, Dredge, and Sea of Sorrow."
