Band: Freeze
From: Kent, England
Their formation story:
(Jack Aldrich, guitar): "Back in 2021, I’d been living abroad and had just moved back to Kent (South East England). I’d picked up guitar during lockdown and had been learning to play and writing a few riffs here and there. I think it all started when I was getting tattooed by my cousin Dan Wilkz (vocals). He mentioned he wanted to start a new project as he’s been in a few bands over the years (Take Heed, Domepiece). I mentioned that I had been writing some its here and there too and asked if he wanted to collaborate.
"After that, we pretty much jumped straight on it and got in a room with Connor (drums) (who also plays in Mindless and Sarah Tonin) and our original bass player Finn. The band operated as a four piece during the course of recording Bitter Cold EP and for a few months after, but since then we’ve had a few lineup changes. We got local legend Dan Brennan (who also plays in Mindless) on bass and recruited Dan Kenney (ex Pay No Respect) to take up rhythm guitar duties.
Their sound in their own words:
"It’s difficult to pen as we draw from more than a few influences, but I’d say it’s a combination of thrash metal and hardcore, metallic hardcore or something like that. As a guitar player I’ve always leaned into the more metal side of things, and I guess my contributions to the band draw from the classics like Metallica, Pantera and Iron Maiden, but for the more recent stuff I’ve also been inspired by thrashy stuff like Exodus and black metal bands such as Bathory and Emperor.
"But we’re all hardcore fans at heart and some of the bands we all like are Crowbar, Madball, Cold World, Trapped Under Ice, and Judge. So yeah, I can’t answer for everyone’s individual tastes and inspirations, but we all love music and listen to a hell of a lot of different stuff."
Latest release info:
"We’ve got six tracks coming out very soon. I won’t say much else as we haven’t actually announced anything yet, but it’s been a really long time coming. We haven’t release any music since the Bitter Cold EP in 2022 (our first-ever record) so it’s really a miracle anyone even gives a fuck we’re still about.
"It’s so easy to fade into obscurity these days so we’re grateful that there’s still a few people who care. Keep your eyes peeled for more info on the release soon!"
Future plans:
"We’ve already got even more new music written and I guess we’re looking to do a full-length record at some point. We’ve all said we’d love to release a record on vinyl at some point so that’s a goal that we’ll hopefully achieve in the not-too-distant future. Other than that, we’ll probably play a few shows here and there later this year, but nothing crazy planned."
What other bands from their region we should check out?
"Honestly, there’s loads. It’s so great to see the South East Hardcore community thriving at the moment with new bands popping up all the time, it honestly feels quite special right now and we’re really lucky to have the likes of Blood Soaked Style, Vae Victus and A Bunch of Flyers putting on sick
shows in Kent.
"If we’re talking about SEHC then check out Mindless, Sarah Tonin, Harrowed, Swear Down, Convulsion, Acid State, and Warden. But there’s loads of cool bands from all over the UK right now so we’re spoilt for choice. I could go on forever if I gave every sick band right now a shout out!"
