I have been a fan of Unsane since I was a kid. Like a lot of us, we were introduced to Unsane via an MTV2 clip of "Scrape." The best music video ever! The band is legendary, to say the least, with a cult following.
Occupational Hazard, the New York City band's 1998 album originally released on Relapse Records, is being remastered and re-released on the band’s own label, Lamb Unlimited. The band has worked with longtime collaborator Andrew Scheider to create a sonically superior experience. I listened to the remaster probably one thousand times. It sounds amazing! The release also includes bonus material, including demo tracks that sound raw and intense!
Unsane has inspired multiple generations of noise rock and metal bands since forming in 1988. It was an honor to have a conversation with the vocalist and guitarist, Chris Spencer, for this No Echo piece. We talk about the Occupational Hazard reissue, their upcoming European tour, and also the worst and best bathrooms he's encountered on the road.
To celebrate the release of the Occupational Hazard reissue, Unsane will perform the album in its entirety at Roadburn in April, followed by a European tour starting in March. Tickets for the tour are available here.
