Antelope Valley hardcore punk band Shiiva are back with a new single, “Lessons Learned,” a fast and punishing track that marks the band’s first release since their 2025 singles “Waiting” and “Key to Eternity.” The song also features a guest appearance from fellow Antelope Valley band All Eyez, bringing an extra burst of local energy to one of Shiiva’s heaviest offerings to date.
Comprised of vocalist Brillo Ward, guitarists Cole Scott and Justin Melchor, bassist Alejandro Aguilar, and drummer Jimmy Wheeler, Shiiva have spent the past several years refining their groove-heavy take on hardcore punk. After introducing that sound on releases like the Groov(e) EP (2020) and Cyclone EP (2022), the band has continued to evolve while members explored other projects such as ’92, Undisputed World Champions, and Nunya. Now, with “Lessons Learned,” the quintet returns with renewed focus and a sharpened sense of aggression:
Lyrically, the track digs into the lasting impact of personal struggles and the growth that can come from facing them head-on. “This song is about how pain shapes who you are,” Ward tells No Echo. “It’s not just about going through hard times, it’s about what those struggles teach you and how they leave marks that stay with you. The scars and calluses mentioned aren’t just physical, they represent lessons, consequences, and growth. The song talks about owning your mistakes, not hiding from them, even when they make you uncomfortable.”
Guitarist Cole Scott sees the single as a turning point for the band moving forward. “This song is a good kickoff to a new generation of this band, showcasing our prior styles but more refined and pushing both sides of the spectrum,” he says. Scott also credits the collaboration with All Eyez for helping bring the track to life. “Shout out to my brothers in All Eyez for hopping on the track. Love you dudes. Also shout out to the homie Vudaje for killing it on the visuals.”
