Humanhead: San Francisco Band Crafts Chaotic Hardcore on Debut Offering

The Humanhead story starts in the winter of 2022 when guitarist Steve Wickwire and drummer Jordan Perkins-Lewis got together to work on music the former began penning during the COVID lockdowns. The pair then welcomed in bassist Travis Williams into the fold, and after months of searching for the right vocalist, Humanhead was finally completed when they found Maria Xeno via an audition.

"We blend various styles of heavy music to create both chaotic and melodic elements, with a good sense of angular tension throughout," Wickwire tells No Echo of the Humanhead sound.

"Our songs often focus on dynamics, offering suggestive melodies and range within the onslaught. Think of mixing the punk energy and melody of bands like The Nerve Agents and early AFI with more heavy and disjointed stuff like Botch or Daughters."

Humanhead's debut offering is an 8-track self-titled release that hit streaming outlets earlier this summer:

"We recorded with our friend Scott Evans who was amazing, organized, and immediately understood the sound we were going for," says Wickwire. "We’d pre-produced demos of all the songs so everything was locked down and cranked the whole thing out in only a few days. Eight tracks coming in at 14 minutes, we are excited for people to give it a whirl!

According to Wickwire, Humanhead is just getting cooking. "We are already writing new songs and playing shows as much as possible. We want to continue pushing our sound to new places and meet more of the incredible bands out there right now.
