Coming out of the Ohio heavy music scene, meet Disobedient Crew. The band started back in 2022, and some beer was involved in their origin story.
"I threw a party at my house, and my longtime friend Cullen (drums) had just recently moved back to town," vocalist Makayen Sallade tells No Echo. "He showed up, and after about 11 Miller Lites, I asked him, 'Do you want to start a band' and he said 'hell yea!' [Laughs] We wrote our first single, 'Tension,' a few days after that and just planned on being an Internet band."
Those plans fell to the wayside after some encouragment. "People ended up liking the first single, so we quickly recruited members, friends of ours, so we could play live shows. That is pretty much how DxC started, liquid courage and a mutual love for guitar music."
Makayen talks a bit about Disobedient Crew's stylistic approach: "The best way to describe our band is 'metal.' When we play metalcore shows we are the hardcore band, when we play hardcore shows we are the metalcore band, and we love that. All of our influences are in the metalcore/metal/hardcore space."
Disobedient Crew recently released a grip of songs called Burden of Strength. "It's probably the most aggressive batch of songs we have ever wrote. The main theme of the EP is 'purpose.' Growing up, I saw a lot of men choose the easy way out, running from responsibility and hardship.
"Ever since I was young I've felt the urge to be a protector and a provider for the people I love. That could mean something different to each person you ask, but for me it means being capable to handle anything that comes my way. Being the person I feel that my family, partner, and friends need, at any cost, is the heart of all the songs."
Clearly enjoying the band's progress, Makayen isn't getting bogged down by big plans for the moment. "We just want to play cool shows, write good music, and see good pits. Disobedient Crew already smashed our expectations of what we thought it would be. At this point we are just thankful to be here rocking and rolling."
