Band: Tears of Joy
From: Tacoma, Washington

Their formation story:
"Paul and Kimmi, long time best friends and bandmates—also bass and vocals of Insecure—decided to start a new heavier music project. Gabe, (guitar, vocals) was asked to join Insecure to fill in on guitar for some shows about a year ago and now is also in Insecure, was really down with Paul and Kim’s vision of a new band.

"We fairly quickly landed on the name ‘Tears of Joy’ and assembled a lineup and played some shows without a demo. We’ve since been through a couple drummers and the drums on our demo are by an old band mate of Gabe’s, Seth, who is incredible. We also recruited Rusty, from Forced Torment, to be on second guitar. Rusty was the one who mastered the demo and was crucial in keeping vibes afloat as we completed the demo."

Their sound in their own words:
"Our sound is definitely all of our different interpretations of what heavier and scarier hardcore music should be like all rolled into one thing. We all share a love for the band Super Structure from Japan, that band had a big influence on us.

"We also really like Candy and Trash Talk from USA. Everyone we show the demo to has mentioned Trapped Under Ice, which is cool."

Latest release info:
"Our newest release is a demo that was recorded by Cameron Heck (Dead Family Dog) in Seattle. It has 4 angry guitar tracks that Gabe wrote plus a DnB track our friend Rowan (vocals of Forced Torment) produced with the help of Rusty.

"A couple of the songs are older songs of Gabe’s he wrote for another project while the others are newer. We really wanted to focus on back and forth vocals as it is something we all love. These songs take a dive into our personal experiences with abuse and depression."

Future plans:
"Play as much as possible in as many places as possible. Write and record new material."

What other bands from their region should we check out?
"Ego Death, Spurr, Cleaver, Forced Torment, Punitive Damage, Denial of Life, Dead Family Dog, Sun Spots, Crawl Space, Insecure, Woolworm."
