New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Godsize

Band: Godsize
From: Johnson City, Tennessee

Their formation story:
(Will, vocals): "I think the idea of Godsize started kicking around somewhere around 2018 or so, and really started to solidify writing material around then and 2019 when I lived with Joey (drums) and Wes the guitar player would come over to our den and we’d all just kick riffs and ideas around. We then had our our friend Dylan, from an amazing band called Coffin Smoke come play bass with us, then really hammered out a crop of songs to go do a demo.

"We picked the greatest time ever to do it in the spring of 2020 [laughs], and that became our first release, It Could Happen to You. We recorded it from Travis Kammeyer from Generation of Vipers/Haal, then Dylan actually left because he makes amazing horror films under Splithoof Films, so in steps our bass player and longtime ultimate homie Jake Moore."

Their sound in their own words:
"I think our sound is a perfect mash of shit we love from New York and shit we love from the South where we’re from. I remember Wes telling Travis when we did the demo, 'I want the guitar tone to sound like High on Fire had guns.'

"If you’re into Merauder just as much as you’re into Corrosion of Conformity just as much as you’re into stuff like Rise and Fall, it’s for you."

Latest release info:
"On Monday, October 9th, we dropped our newest EP, No Survivors. We recorded with Travis Kammeyer again, because he’s the man and knows exactly what we want. Basically a fifth member of the band almost at this point. It’s about 10 minutes of nothing but aggression. No let up at all."

Future plans:
"I think our immediate future plans are to just keep writing, hopefully for a full length soon, maybe a split in the middle, and just play as many cool shows as we can."

Name some other bands from your local scene that deserve some attention.
"Bands to check out from Johnson City: Nerve Endings, who are like super wild DC-sounding hardcore, Coffin Smoke, who are one of the best detuned doom bands doing it, Jake Moore our bass player’s solo stuff under the name Jacob Danielsen Moore, which is killer singer/songwriter stuff with amazing lyrics, and then I play guitar in a band called Haal, for fans of Soundgarden, Failure, Cave In, and stuff like that."
