New Hardcore Band Spotlight: Finesse

Band: Finesse
From: Houston, Texas

Their formation story:
(Reice Perez, vocals): "Derek [Rathbun, bass] had originally hit me up to do vocals for this idea he had for a project that was going to be something pretty different than Finesse turned out to be, but the guts of the sound was there.

"Our mutual homie Taylor [Johnson, drums] joined the band and started hashing it out on the kit with Derek to solidify what our sound would be what the structure of our EP, See You Lose, would turn into. Like any band we tried out some people, went through some changes, practiced a shit ton and before you know it we ended up with the lineup to what we have now.

"Much love to our friend Jonah Castillo of Strange Joy who recorded guitars on the record!"

Their sound in their own words:
"There’s an abundance of heavy hardcore going around. The same riffs, the same sound, and it can be so over saturated when everyone is doing the same thing. We, as a band, wanted to bring back that real hardcore sound to Houston that we as individuals grew up listening to.

"Bands like Trapped Under Ice, No Warning, DARE, Cross Me, and Backtrack gave us the vision of what our EP sounds like."

Latest release info:
"Half of what I sing about has to do a lot with mental struggles I’ve dealt with/ am dealing with and not feeling like a real person at times.

"The other half has everything to do with very certain people I’ve/we come across in our scene that preach the typical “Houston hardcore! Support your scene! Hardcore for Hardcore!” type shit, but never put their money where their mouth is. Instead, you get half ass weak-minded individuals who say the words but claim clout on their friends success and for a public pat on the back.

See You Lose is the title track of our EP, and it has everything to do with that situation, or really any situation in anyone’s scene if you can relate to that."

Future plans:
"We’re all in different active projects, but we’ve got a demo release show in the works with some of our good friends that we can’t wait to share the stage with. Finesse was started with the intention to play some cool shows, speak our shit, and have some fun. This bands about having fun, and 100% for the real fans of hardcore music."

What other bands from their region should we check out:
"Huge shoutout to our friends in Juicebox with their new record coming out soon as well as Houstons very own Straight edge, XAncient OnesX. Special shout out to Scathe, Sheer Force, Everyone Bleedz, Fear of Loss, and Isolate."
