Day 2 was the day of Milwaukee Metal Fest which I believe was not only the most crowded but the most anticipated. It was also a bit of a confusing as far as what to expect.
The lineup for the day would feature a headline set by Mr. Bungle and would include bands like Terrorizer, Soilent Green, The Red Chord, Death Ray Vision, and Katatonia to name a few before ending the night with Mike Patton and company. To say this led to some confusion would be easily believable but I welcomed the variety of sounds throughout the day.
As I mentioned in my first article, this was also the day when I was kicked in the back of the head by a crowd surfer. Due to this fact, I unfortunately missed artists I had hoped to prioritize here including Municipal Waste, Hatebreed, and Testament. I hope you all can understand why I needed to take time to hydrate and honestly assess whether it was safe for me to continue shooting the festival.
While Milwaukee Metal Fest likely attracts many people through the more established in the lineup, I also see the value in this festival returning as a great opportunity for young bands or less familiar bands to play to an audience that might walk away with their set being the favorite of the entire weekend.
I haven’t attended many festivals of this type, but I don’t always get the impression from posters I see of similar events offering this exposure for all artists. Documenting a festival of this type requires a mental and physical that isn’t easy to summarize, but I’d certainly appreciate the opportunity to do it again.
Thanks for checking out my photo work in documenting Milwaukee Metal Fest and make sure to support these bands.
